Teaching Children to Walk the Path
“Teaching Children to Walk the Path” is an all inclusive program, designed to help Buddhist temples, dhamma halls and home-study groups implement a children’s dhamma program into its current practice.
It is an all-inclusive program. Few, if any materials are needed for teaching the program, except the program itself.
It is comprised of 4 components:
First, is the Teacher’s Manual. Here you will find 12 Units designed to introduce children to the basic aspects of Buddhism. Each unit contains multiple lessons, worksheets, activities and review questions.
The units can be taught in any order.
The units are as follows:
Unit 1 Who was the Buddha?
Unit 2 The Buddha’s Enlightenment
Unit 3 What the Buddha Taught
Unit 4 Compassion, Loving Kindness and the Four Immeasurables
Unit 5 The Sangha
Unit 6 The Buddha’s Death
Unit 7 The Triple Gem
Unit 8 What Do Buddhists Believe
Unit 9 The Three Universal Truths
Unit 10 Meditation
Unit 11 Buddhist Scriptures, Symbols and Festivals
Unit 12 Other Aspects of Buddhism
Second, is the Student Workbook. The review questions, activities and worksheets found at the end of each lesson creates the student workbook. The workbook is to be used at the end of each lesson to re-enforce what has just been taught.
Third, is the Student Devotional. Here you will find information about paying homage, meditation, prayers, chants and other information designed to guide students in daily practice.
Last, is the Coloring and Activity Book. This contains coloring pages, puzzles and activities for children which can be included in daily lessons.
While the program is designed to teach younger students, it can be used to teach any age child who is just beginning to learn the basics of Buddhism.
